Information about plants and planting techniques is forthcoming. In the meantime, visit Environmental Concerns, Inc.'s website for tips and guidance, as well as details on where to get native plants that do well in the Deal Island area shoreline environments: http://www.wetland.org
We will also provide planting recommendations and information at the October 7th meeting. Mark your calendars!
Here's a list of plants that work well under different salinity levels. More details about these (and others) will be available on October 7th. You can also find additional information at www.wetland.org.
There are plants adapted to live in areas of salt spray that have great root systems which help to prevent erosion. Last summer we had a small workshop where a representative from Environmental Concerns, Inc. came out and discussed different planting options for shoreline areas. We're hoping to have them come and give a talk again at the Oct. 7 meeting.
